Marina
by Giustina Amarine
Marina is set in 2002 on a small island in Southern Italy. Two twelve-year-old friends are going through a transformative stage of life, bound by an intense relationship shaped by desire, admiration, and fear: Marina pushes beyond limits without hesitation, while Angelica remains tied to the judgment of others. Between them there is not only friendship, but also a growing distance in the way each of them confronts the world around them. Their universe is made of silences, glances, and mystery, marked by a curiosity toward a community living on the island, perceived as “impure” and distant. As they move toward adolescence, the adult world reveals itself as something profoundly unreachable.
